Before you can even look for a cure for ringworm in humans, you have to find out what ringworm is. The easiest thing to do is spot an irregularity on the skin, assume that it’s ringworm and purchase over-the-counter medication that will end up not working at all. When seeing something in the skin, never assume that it is ringworm at once because we have to know it first before dealing with it.
What Is It?
Ringworm is a skin infection that is caused by a fungus found in the skin. It is also known as Tinea and can be found on different areas of the body. There is ringworm that can be found on the scalp (Tinea Capitis), on the skin (Tinea Corporis), on the groin (“Jock Itch” or Tinea Cruris) and on the foot (“Athlete’s foot” or Tinea Pedis)
Ringworm is contagious. You can get ringworm by just mere skin contact. Ringworm can also come from pets. However ringworm in humans could be treated as quickly as it can be transmitted. If you don’t want a doctor, you can do self-medication to treat ringworms.
How do you distinguish a genuine ringworm?
When you see scaly and red ringed patches on your skin that is very itchy, it probably is ringworm. When ringworm is on the scalp, you can see bald patches but when found on nails it’s usually discoloured and thick.
How to Treat Ringworm
Cleaning the body is one of the best ways to prevent ringworm from your body. Keeping your body skin clean and dry is another way to prevent ringworms because fungus thrives on moisture and dirt. Don’t share personal items such as combs and towels and don’t go barefoot when in public places.
In treating ringworm in humans, it’s good to know that it responds quite well to anti-fungal creams and powders. Ketoconazole is the more preferred treatment for human ringworm. Homepathic remedies can also be used to treat ringworms such as Kalium Muriaticum (Potassium Chloride), Natrium Muriaticum (Salt or Sea Salt) and Kalium Sulphate (Potassium Sulfate). Natural remedies such as herbs like Red Clover (Trifolium pratense) and Cleavers (Galium Aperine) can act as blood purifiers and cleansing tonics to help you get rid of ringworm.
If you have treated ringworm with ointments and it still keeps getting worst, you can consult your doctor or a skin specialist to make sure that there are no other underlying infections that goes together with your ringworm. There are medicines that can be taken orally that need doctor’s recommendations so be sure to ask them about it.
