Feline ringworm is a common skin infection caused by fungi known as dermatophytes. These fungi can catch your cat at any time and most of the people having cats will cat ringwormexperience this problem with their pet. One more thing is that these cats can spread the ringworm to human beings also. Having some knowledge about this infection, you can prevent your cat from getting the disease. Dermatophyte is a fungus which causes skin infection. There are three types of dermatophytes. Among them Microsporum canis is the most common. The other two which are not so common are Microsporum gypseum and Trichophyton ringworm in catsmentagrophytes.Feline ringworm is very contagious and if you see this on your cat then there is a high chance that it will transfer to you.

Feline Ringworm Symptoms

Some cats do not show any signs though the fungus is present on their skin and fur. This can be because the fungus did not penetrate the skin. Because of this the cat acts as a carrier for the fungus and may spread it to other cats or humans.

When the fungus penetrates the skin, it starts to digest the tissues and outer layer of the skin. Some common things that can be observed are

1) Circular patches with little or no hair

2) Brittle hair

3) Some degree of itching can also be seen

4) The skin becomes scaly and lesions may appear
