Ringworm, also termed tinea corporis, is an infectious skin disease caused by mold-like fungi called Dermatophytes. This disease usually transmits through direct contact with ringworm-infected animals or with humans by sharing combs, clothing or by touching infected areas. Despite its name, there are no worms involved at any
phase of the ringworm process. It used to be believed that a worm caused or was a symptom of ringworm, but now people know better. However, the name stuck.
The common symptoms for ringworms are itching, burning, dryness, or circular flaky rashes on the skin. Though, in the case of animals, the primary symptom is temporary hair loss in affected areas, itching or scratchiness in a specific body part.
A primary cause of ringworm is direct contact with infected animals or humans.
Ringworm Cream
Ringworm has been around for a while. This parasitic fungus infects people as well as animals and is easily transmitted. Children have a higher probability of catching the disease because of their undeveloped immune system. At any Walgreen’s or drug
center you can pick up a variety of ringworm creams. You will normally find medication such as Miconazole, Lotrimin, Lamisil and Canesten. Many others will be available. You can just ask the staff to suggest a proper ringworm cream.
The ringworm creams suggested above have ingredients such as terbinafine hydrochloride which mainly disrupt that fungus’s ability to produce ergosterol, a main component of fungi cell membranes. The medications target this part of the fungi cell and eventually destroy it.
Cover Ringworm Disease
The first thing to do is go to your local drug store and pickup some antifungal cream such as Lamisil or Lotrimin. Apply it to the infected area as directed and position a bandaid on the spot. If someone asks, you can just tell them you cut yourself in the kitchen or something similar. Every time you need to reapply the antifungal cream, be sure to throw out the used bandaid and place a new one on the rash to cover ringworm. Remember, if you cover ringworm you will lower the risk of spreading the disease.
But the ringworm is on my scalp!
If you have ringworm on your scalp then the only way to cover ringworm is to use a hat. Use whatever medication the doctor or pharmacy staff suggested and cover it up with a hat. It is critically important that you do not share the hat with anyone else since there is a very high risk of passing on the disease.
Treat Ringworm
Nowadays there are many remedies that can cure this disease in about 4 weeks. It’s simple. You can go to your local pharmacy and just ask the personnel, "how do you treat ringworm". They will offer you several creams that will get the job done. There are also some tablets that can eliminate the hassle of actually applying some ointment on your body but you will probably need a prescription.
